My illustration work has
encompassed
greetings cards,
book covers,
advertising and packaging
and more. My clients include Hallmark Cards, NatWest Bank,
Random House and BBC Worldwide. I am used to working to tight
deadlines to set briefs. I am happy to work to commission or
to submit completed designs for consideration to the greetings
cards market. Fees are negotiable. I also have a range of
stock illustration
available for use immediately for an arranged fee. Most of my
work is for the UK market, but I do accept commissions from
overseas.
I enjoy painting
landscapes from my own photographs and display my fine art
work from time to time in selected galleries. In July 2003 I
held a solo exhibition of Liverpool and Wirral landscape
paintings and drawings -
'Both Sides of The Water'
- at Liverpool Academy of Arts. My painting of Birkenhead Park
was selected as a finalist in the Daily Mail's
NOT The Turner Prize 2003
and was exhibited in the Mall Galleries in London. My previous
one-man exhibition was held In 1996 at the Domino Gallery in
Liverpool. I exhibit at the annual Beatles exhibition at
Liverpool Academy of Arts, coinciding with the Matthew Street
Festival.
My painting technique
has developed over a number of years after studying the work
of the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists, particularly
the pointillist theories of Seurat and Signac. I build up
colour in multiple layers to form an almost pointillist effect
over the canvas, creating optical mixtures and effects. I
favour scenes bathed in strong sunlight, with striking
contrasts of light and shadow. Up until the end of the 1990's
I was producing illustration work in acrylics and fine art
work in alkyds, but I now work exclusively in acrylics, the
drying time of which enables me to work more quickly. I work
on canvas board when producing illustration work and stretched
canvas or canvas board for gallery work and private
commissions.
The majority of the
black and white illustrations included in the
drawings
section of my website are landscapes taken from my sketchbook.
Many of the landscape
drawings of Merseyside
were exhibited in my 'Both Sides of The Water' exhibition in
2003, and include images of Liverpool and Wirral. There is
also a selection of pencil sketches of the
Isle of Mull
in Scotland and some more
illustrative drawings
including pictures of people and historical illustrations.
Portraits include both
full colour paintings in acrlyics or alkyds and pencil
drawings. They include both famous people and private
commissions.

I also offer a portraits from photographs service. I can

friends.
