-
The golden rule of
searching is if you are unsure of the details, enter the minimum
amount of information first, and then refine your search.
-
Check all spellings.
Even one wrong letter will affect the search
-
Consider whether the
party you are looking for is listed under a different name or likely
to be ex-directory.
-
Please place all roads &
places in the "where" box.
-
If you are uncertain of
details use a wildcard (enter an '*' after the first 3 letters) to
match any unknown characters e.g. enter 'Smit* in the name field for
'Smith' or 'Smithson'
-
Do not search by an
abbreviated name such as Gerry or Nick - use the full names Gerald
or Nicholas.
-
If you are unsure of the
spelling of a name just use the part you are sure of.
-
Consider that people
often prefer to use a middle/different forename in daily life - but
their registered forename may remain their given Forename. If in
doubt try to search just by the Surname.
-
If you are having
problems finding someone try searching for someone else who lives in
the same household - or search the Street to confirm your spelling.
-
If you are having
difficulty finding a person living in a village or town try
searching for them in a county.
-
If you are having
difficulty identifying a person out of a list of several hundred
persons with the same name try to refine your search with some
additional information, such as Village/Town or Forename. Also try
to search other members of the same household as verification. For
instance there are many 'John Smiths' but not so many living with a
'Mary Smith'.
-
To find the number of a
private individual you must know their surname and location e.g.
town or Post Code If the surname is very common it helps to narrow
down the search if you can also provide the correct initials and
street name. However you should not use the initials or street name
unless you are certain these are correct.
